As many of you know, I LOVE PURPLE ! I love it so much that the entire first floor of my home is painted purple (and yes I have a wonderful, patient husband !!) So of course, I HAD to purchase the purple scooper. But then I began to think about the whole concept of a purple pooper scooper and had many philosophical or many pschological questions....is it supposed to be for picking up female poop? or for females scoopers to use? (I don't think hubby would choose a purple one) Is it supposed to make you feel extra feminine while scooping up poop? Is the color purple supposed to make you feel happy while scooping??
Would love to hear your comments on this !! I have concluded that just having a purple pooper scooper will make me SMILE while doing the poop scooping JOB and

Update on Forney tornados

http://www.blessedbassets.com/1/post/2012/04/update-on-forney-tornados.html

http://www.blessedbassets.com/1/post/2012/04/update-on-forney-tornados.html#comments

Uncategorized

  [...]

I want to thank you all for calling, texting, emailing and checking in with your love and concern for our family and our Bassets. I have never felt so loved !! The full story is below. This is Sunshine and her puppies just chilling out during the storm.

On Tuesday, two tornados struck our community of Forney. We were so blessed by God and protected that we were totally untouched by both of them. The first large tornado was in the small town Lancaster just southeast of us and as we watched the weatherman and his tracking radar it was headed directly toward us. We secured all of the outside dogs in their pens, had our mama Sunshine and pups, pregnant Annabelle and our blind Wilma in the house and we prepared our very, very tiny half bathroom on the first floor for our shelter. It is the only place in our big old farmhouse without windows and secure. THEN WE PRAYED and asked God to protect us and esp. to protect our outside dogs. That tornado headed for our house lifted right back up into the clouds. An hour or so later the funnels were forming just west of our pasture, clouds swirling over our heads, strong wind, thunder and lightening...not a drop of rain....and the whole storm front went to the back of our property (back pasture) and on into Forney where the two tornados came down about 5 miles from our home. We are tremendously thankful to God for his Hand of protection over all of us. There were 100 homes damaged and 22 completely destroyed in Forney. Our Forney Animal Hospital (our precious vets, Dr. Nix and Dr. Hammond) received a direct hit from the tornado....all staff and all of the animals kenneled there were totally unhurt although the middle of the roof was blown off and other damage occurred. All over Forney there was damage but only minor injuries and no one was killed. This is an absolute miracle !!
Of course our hearts go out to everyone devastated by the tornados and we are very encouraged to see our community all pulling together to help each other. God is good !

Our sweet Wilma (our blind dog) totally unaffected by the storms taking her usual afternoon snooze.

Annabelle (5 wks. pregnant) and totally restful during the storm.

Home visits are a joy !!

http://www.blessedbassets.com/1/post/2012/03/home-visits-are-a-joy.html

http://www.blessedbassets.com/1/post/2012/03/home-visits-are-a-joy.html#comments

Uncategorized

   [...]

One of the many blessings of raising Bassets is making connections with such wonderful families. I recently got to be with two such families. It is an extra special delight to be invited for a home visit and to see my babies all grown up (or growing up as with Clementine) in their home enviroment and interacting with the ones they love. Of course, I also get lots of loving too from my grown up babies. John and Pam took their Molly and Maggie (now referred to as the "naughty sisters") home in July 2010. They have kept me updated on their girls and have been a huge encouragement in my life. Their daughter, Kathleen and her family took Clementine home just six months ago. It was such fun to see her boys playing with their much loved puppy. My desire in raising puppies is that they will go home to loving forever families and to see this desire being fulfilled just made my day !!
And to see these beautiful and sweet Basset gals! We are heartbroken because even with so many Bassets we love them each individually and they are our Basset family and Rudy was one very special guy and he is greatly missed !!
Also in Dec. for the first time ever we had two precious puppies (9 months old) returned to us due to a family crisis. Otis and Hazel are totally attached to each other and after a week back home with us it was evident that they were here to stay. We also added Grundy to our Basset family at the end of December. You can see all of these sweeties by clicking the Our Dogs tab. So the last few months have brought a lot of change to our Basset family...some happy and some sad !! We are so thankful for each of the precious Bassets we have and their very individual personalities and attachments to us!! It is our goal to be great family and caretakers of them right down to their last day !!

Snow dogs--February 2011

http://www.blessedbassets.com/1/post/2011/03/snow-dogs-february-20111.html

http://www.blessedbassets.com/1/post/2011/03/snow-dogs-february-20111.html#comments

Uncategorized

[...]

Snow dogs--February 2011

http://www.blessedbassets.com/1/post/2011/03/snow-dogs-february-2011.html

http://www.blessedbassets.com/1/post/2011/03/snow-dogs-february-2011.html#comments

Uncategorized

I am so far behind on all of my blogs and you will understand why as you read them and I catch you up on Blessed Basset events. The 2010 snow event (see blog) we thought was monumental and could not be surpassed (15 dogs inside)....but this year we DID BEAT IT !! We had 5 nights and 4 days with 18 bassets in the house !! With lows of 10 degrees and daytime highs of 12 degrees and 6 inches of s [...]

With lows of 10 degrees and daytime highs of 12 degrees and 6 inches of snow, we felt the cold was just too extreme for our Bassets to be outside even with 3 sided shelters, dog houses with hay and another warm Basset body. We had two pregnant girls (just bred) and two girls in heat which is pretty difficult when we also have 6 male dogs....it gets pretty exciting. Before you envision 18 dogs running wild through our house let me assure you that they were all been confined in various places; in our dog room (3 on each side making 6 in all), utility room (3 there), downstairs half bath (2 pregnant girls), 5 in crates and 2 sleeping on dog beds. And believe it or not they were relatively quiet and quiet all night. We spent our days taking the dogs outside to potty and trying to give them some attention and breaks from confinement. It's great that my husband and daughter were off of work due to the weather and at home to help. The warmest day, 15 degrees, my hubby let the dogs out in small groups to run around their play area for about 10 minutes at a time. After 10 minutes they were all looking at him like, "can we go back in now?" It's a good thing that Bassets love to just lay around because that was about the extent of their activity. We hope someday to have a heated barn for all of them to be in when the weather is bad but truly we have never seen this kind of weather in Texas lasting for such a long stretch!! I am so thankful for a hubby who also loves our sweet Bassets and looked at this as one big adventure because the following week there was another snowstorm and extreme cold....my daughter and I were gone on a trip so singlehandedly my hubby brought in all 18 dogs again...what a MAN !!
I am only putting a few photos here or else the whole blog would be covered !!

Rudy, Precious and Dinah in half of the dog room in the whelping box.

Wally with his children, Otis and Hazel in the other half of dog room in the whelping box.

Grundy, Angel and Phoebe in the utility room.

Annabelle and her daughter, Sunshine, the pregnant gals in the tiny half bathroom.
