Moose--Moose was a birthday gift from Dacre to Mark for his December birthday.  Moose was by far the largest puppy in his litter so we called him Moose from the beginning and after Mark chose him as his own he just kept the name.  "Moose has settled in really well.  Last night was not too bad - we placed him in a different kennel by the bed and tapped and "shhhd" him when he woke up - went out about 4am and then 7am.  He has had very few accidents and is a big boy and does his job when he does go out.  He is an absolute sweetie and is not lacking for anything!  I had to share the picture of Mark and
Moose asleep on the floor. " first day at home   @ 8weeks old 11/09
"Wanted to share a few pictures from Mark's Birthday and Moose's 12 week Celebration.  Moose is now up to 22 pounds and growing"......(bottom left photo).  12/09
"".....I can not believe how much Moose has grown and am anxious to see how much he weighs when we take him for his final shots this weekend.  He and Mark are best pals and you should see how excited he gets when Mark comes in and Moose hears his voice." Jan. 2010

Gabby--was the smallest puppy at birth that we have ever had weighing only 8 oz. (Basset puppies are usually at 12-16 oz. and sometimes larger.) . We were very concerned about whether she would live...but she was strong and a good "sucker" yet due to her small size she was pushed off the nipples alot by the other puppies.  We supplemented her nursing with a lot of bottle feeding as well and a lot of prayer.  She thrived.  We called her Twiggy from the start (for those of you old enough to remember a very skinny model from the '60's).  We became very attached to our little Twiggy and prayed for God to bring someone very special who would choose her and think she was as sweet and miraculous as we did.  God is good and he brought Jeff and Angie. They had recently lost their 10 yr. old beloved dog and Jeff's parents had a precious Basset puppy they had purchased from us.  This persuaded Angie to begin again with a new puppy and she feel in love with Twiggy.  They had an older female Basset named Sapphie who they felt would "mother " little Twiggy as well and it turned out to be true.    (top left photo is Twiggy at one week old.  Top right photo is Twiggy next to her brother, Moose who is profiled above, at 6 weeks old.  Quite a difference in size.)
"Well when we got "twiggy"home the name diamond just did not fit, so after some time and a lot of noise making on her part she is now "GABBY".  It is actually quite fitting as she is a mouthy little fart. I have just fallen in love with her and Sapphie has taken to her quite well. Sapphie is protective of her.....I had taken gabby outside in the back yard to go potty the first night when the neighbors dogs started barking. Sapphie bolted off the couch and out the doggie door she came to check up on us. What makes this funny is that our yards are divided by a six foot tall wooden privacy fence. There is no way that the neighbor dogs could have gotten to us, but sapphie was coming to the rescue:) Anyway I thought you might want to know that gabby is adjusting well. Nickel (that becky got from you in the spring) and gabby are going to be the best of friends. They already play so well together.  Nov. '09

"The pups are doing great we may not have a house left by the time Gabby gets grown. The 2 of them spend hours running and playing. And do they get rough with each other.  We have enjoyed the pups so much and they have almost the same layed back personality. With Nickel you never know what he is going to do. He is really a clown. And he is going to sneak a lick some how. And you might as well get ready for it. Gabby is really growing she weighs about 22lbs and just a sweetheart. Angie just fell in love with her. So you have 2 very happy customers. Becky wants to shoot Nickel sometimes ( he loves to get in her bed)...so trouble at bed time.... " Jan. 2010 from Jeff's Dad about his Basset Nickel and Gabby

Nickel--Roger and Becky were looking for a sweet Basset due to the tragic loss of one of their pair.  When they came out to see the puppies Roger seemed quite serious....but it was obvious that he was totally taken with Nickel.  I have learned that Roger really has a dry wit.  Recently he told me that he had discovered that Nickel could not "hold his liquor".  When I looked surprised and dismayed Roger filled me in by saying...."yes he cannot hold his licker...he is always licking someone !"
" Just wanted to say thank you so much for the chance to raise Nickel. As you can see by the pic. He has made  himself right at home. Not one whimper at night so far. Thanks again. (photo top right first day home)

" Just wanted to drop a note and say Nickel and Onyx have bonded.they do not want to be apart now. And in about a month we will have to move out of the house. They will be tearing it down playing. It is almost that bad now. " June '09   recent quote in profile above of Gabby  (Roger is father of Jeff B. above)

Cuddles and Baxie--When Lisa came to pick out her puppy we had two litters of puppies and she could not decide between these two pups (one from each litter).  Her son was with her and he talked her into taking both puppies so they could keep each other company.  It has worked out great and here are Lisa's comments:

They are doing great. I took both to our vet today for their 9 week shots and of course, they were the hit of the vet's office.  Everyone had to come pet and hold them. The vet said that they were two of the prettiest bassets he had seen in a long time.  So I praised you tremendously and told them all about how wonderful you are to your dogs and how much you love them.
Cuddles and Baxie are having very few accidents, and are hitting the papers every night in our utility room.  They are so much company for me when my hubby is out of town and they are hilarious just watching them play with one another.  They haven't whined at night at all - so I'm so glad that Jeremy talked me into getting both of them.  Oct. 08

I took them yesterday for their 12 week shots and Cuddles weighs 16.1 pounds and Baxie weighs 19.4 pounds - so they are eating well!    The vet and workers just love them both and want to keep them everytime I take them in - but who couldn't love those faces! They play so hard when I get home in the evenings that they crash when I put them to bed and I don't hear a peep out of them until morning. And they are even getting our 11-year-old Dachshund (Ginger) to play too - it's so funny!  Baxie lays on her back and barks at Ginger to get her to play, then Cuddles chimes in - it's like I have a duet!  Charlie called last night from New Mexico (yes, he's travelling every week), and one of the first questions he asked was how are the babies - not, how is my wife!  haha!  Nov.08

Cuddles and Baxie continue to be the most wonderful dogs.  Charlie and I marvel at them every day at what they are doing, how they are acting, etc.  Their favorite place to be is in my lap - guess those days when they were small and I held them a lot are coming back to haunt me - I can still hold them, but let me assure you, I have a lap full of dogs!  Cuddles still was named most appropriately - she always wants to be loved and next to someone.  Baxie continues to want the same amount of attention as Cuddles, but Baxie is quite a bit larger and tends to just knock Cuddles out of the way to get her attention!  We find them sleeping on their beds on their backs, all 4 feet up in the air, heads to one side, and they snore!  We laugh at them constantly.  3/09

They are so sweet and lovable - they seem to get more loving by the day.  They love when Jeremy's two big dogs come and play with them outside - in fact, they play so hard that by the time Jeremy's dogs leave, my two babies are exhausted and don't move for about 2 hours while they take a nap!  Just like kids!  5/09

Honeybelle--Kerrie is one very special lady.  She and I developed a real friendship through our numerous emails while she was waiting for her Honeybelle to be born and grow big enough to go home.  Kerrie has sent all three of her children to serve in Iraq (and blessedly all 3 have returned home).  Honeybelle has been a very special warmth to Kerrie's soul.  Here are her words on her Honeybelle:

We are completely besotted. I  have had friends coming over, calling, and emailing for pictures. I
pick her up and rock her in the rocker like a baby, she loves that. I  am going to have a 70 pound dog crawling into my lap like a baby.  Ruby has taken too her just fine, they even eat together which
surprised me.  HoneyBelle, she is well loved. Everyone just GUSHES over her.
HoneyBelle likes to walk  into the sprinkler and suck the water right out of jets letting water
run off her. She is my doll. My vet loves her and everyone comes in  to play with her. I got laughed at for trying to walk her in with a  leash the other day. She got close to the room and went into bucking.
I scooped her up and her vet had been watching her. She got scolded  by him and I was reminded that a 65 pound girl will not be a tote  baby. Then he scooped her up and started baby talking to her!! She  has a gorgeous coat, Bonnie. A stunning rich color, and the white  collar marking around her neck makes a big white velvet pelt roll  over her collar. She is sassy too! I talk to her and she does her  basset vocalizations. She ate a baby bird like it was a soft shelled  crab. I wondered what she was crunching on...
In the photo above left, she is denying any involvement of  the toilet paper and shoe in the living room floor. She is even  sassing me in the picture! HoneyBelle is my blessing, she warms my  heart. June '09

HoneyBelle is 36 pounds at 4 months. She looks more like Angel  everyday. She has that long nose of her mothers. I had a lady from  the local basset rescue come look at the house and yard so we can
foster one and she could not keep her hands off HoneyBelle. She kept  picking her up and kissing her muzzle-it is like squishy velvet! I  even had a dried globule of drool stuck to the side of my head that
she helped get off.   She is a mess and we love her! She weighed 36 pounds 2 weeks ago, and  has had a big girl growth spurt since then. I am quite sure she is  over 40 pounds now! She has big girl feet now, it is like being poked  with moon pies. She is very tactile and is always putting her foot on  me, I love the way it feels! When I take a shower she likes to try  and pull the shower curtain down! She is a love, I like to put her in  my lap. I will have a giant lap dog, I know. Could not be happier!  I have attached a photo of my son and HoneyBelle that you will enjoy.  She is clearly infatuated with him and turns into a pool of basset
around him.  (photo above  bottom right) August '09

Leroy--Just wanted to let you know we took Leroy (formerly known as Raymond) to the vet today for his 1st check-up.  Everybody just couldn't believe how cute he is.  The vet says he's the healthiest puppy he has seen in awhile.  He did inform me that he will be a big dog due to the size of his feet.  I assured him we knew.  He was also happy that we were able to tell him about Angel and Gabriel.  He said not to many people know the history of their dogs parents ect....  I bet your wondering about the name change?  Well we got him home and just watched him and the more we got to know him, the more he just looked like a Leroy.  And the name stuck!!!  He also weighs 14.01 lbs.  He is growing well and he and our Dachsund are like best pals!!  The 2 cats tolerate him but he adores them also.  All is well around the P. house with our new edition.  Take care and thank you for loving your dogs and puppies the way you do!!!!                      (photo on  top right is going home photo)  Oct. 2008

I think Leroy is a great puppy! He is good with other dog also!! He always chews on stuff though and barks all of the time, but i think he will be a really good dog when he grows up!! I feel really great that he became our puppy!! I feel like he always does stuff we tell him to do, but he really doesn't!!! I think in a few years I will feel the same way and think the same thing!!! He is a really great dog! I hope some of you people out there choose a dog like him!!!!!!!  Allie P. (age 10)  Edgewood, Tx.  photos above Dec. 2008 @ 4 mos.old

Hi!!!! This is Sheila and we just wanted to show Angel and Gabriel their little boy all grown up:) He has been such a joy to have and we thank you everyday for raising such good, sweet dogs. Because of you and your tenderness, we have the best Bassett ever. Do you know he doesn't even run away when we let him out. He is just content hanging around with us outside. I hope ya'll are doing fine and I pray that your puppies and dogs are fine also. Again thanks for giving us our precious Leroy!!!!!   one year old birthday Aug. 2009

Bella-- I believe Bella will be good size too.  Last time she was at the vet she was 29 lbs.  (She was spayed and did great – bouncing off the walls about 12 hrs later!).  That’s been at least 3 weeks, maybe 4.  It was the week after she finished her last set of shots.  She is such a joy and the sweetest basset you could imagine.  She loves to brush her teeth and play in the water so I’m cleaning her ears very often!  She’s not real fond of riding in the car but we are working on that! We had a bad thunder/lighting storm last week that woke her up; she needed to go out but wouldn’t so she used paper!  I didn’t train her on paper – just to go directly outside. She hasn’t seen paper since we picked her up but she knew what to do!  She is great! We were going outside every 20 minutes the first couple of weeks…I was exhausted but it was worth it.  She was almost completely housebroken within 3 weeks!   I am attaching a couple of pics of her. Notice the heart on her side – perfect!  She loves her crate – it’s where she sleeps at night.  She gets a Kong toy with a little peanut butter and bits of treats at bedtime so she really looks forward to getting in her “house”.  She has a favorite toy (a goofy hoola dancer monkey)…and honestly, she didn’t’ seem to miss her siblings when we brought her home.  She whined the first couple of nights just a little, then she was fine.   @ 4 mos. August 2008

I enrolled Bella in the intermediate class (after the puppy class) at Petsmart.  She’s really smart and loves to learn.  The one thing I can’t get her to do is drop the dead worms she finds outside…YUCK…hehe!  She really is a good girl, enjoys being outside, riding in the car, and playing with the dogs in the neighborhood.  She lets me cut her nails, clean her ears and brushing her teeth is not too difficult either.  I’m so happy to have found you and her!  I hope all yours are healthy and happy!  @ 6 mos. Oct. 2008

Thank you so much for the Christmas e-mail!  The bassets are all so cute in their Christmas attire!  Bella had a great Christmas; we went to my Mom’s in Louisiana and she got so much attention.  She was great and really enjoyed begging for bites from everyone.  She doesn’t get human food (well she does eat yogurt, carrots, etc.), but she did get lucky twice (snatched food out of hands that weren’t paying enough attention!).  We were out of town for 11 days and the cat (Simon Peter) was so upset with Bella that when we got back, he ignored her for 2 days.  Bella wanted so much to play but Simon wanted no part of it!  The picture of them together is after we had been home about 48 hours.  It is never a dull moment here!  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! @ 8 mos.

Isabella (“Bella”) is now a little over 9 months old.  She weighs 50 lbs and will do anything for a treat.  She likes carrots, apples, yogurt, bananas, and also baseboards, window blinds, pine cones, sticks, etc.! She is very healthy, very stubborn and the sweetest girl ever.  She loves to be outside and always rolls over for a belly-rub when she meets someone.  I tell her all the time that she’s a “good dog”, but I tell her just as often that I should have named her “Miss Behaven” because if she is not asleep, she is usually causing trouble!  She keeps us very busy and very entertained.   Bella graduated from both Puppy and Intermediate training classes and when she’s in the house with no distractions, she performs everything she learned perfectly!  She totally forgets (ignores) everything she’s learned when she’s outside!  She is the most lovable, most beautiful Basset Hound ever.  She’s full of love and even has a heart shaped spot on her side (see picture of her on pillow)! I just wanted to touch base now that Bella will be 1 year old tomorrow!  It’s amazing how fast the last 10 months have gone.  She’s still a great girl and absolutely beautiful!  She plays well with all (other dogs, people, cats, etc.).  She saw her first cows last weekend and was a little frightened (they were quite big!).  Everyone loves her and she still rolls over for belly rubs when she greets people.  She kisses all the dogs she plays with (it’s like a dog park in our neighborhood every day at 5 pm with 5 or 6 dogs playing daily) and she never gets upset when the other dogs steal her toys or sticks.  She tries really hard to keep up with the faster dogs sometimes….other times she just sits and waits for them to get close again (very smart as she’ll never be able to catch some of them)! Hope you and all your babies are doing well!  I plan on getting Bella a special birthday gift and giving her more love than normal (if that’s possible!) tomorrow.  Let Sunshine know Bella sends birthday wishes!.  April 2009

I just thought I’d let you know that Bella went to the vet today for her first “big girl” shots.  The vet said she’s perfect (no surprise as I already knew that)!  She weighed 56 pounds!  I’ve attached some of recent pictures of her to for you.  She’s a handful and very, very stubborn!  She is well behaved most of the time but really stubborn when she wants her way.   July 09

Christmas photos of Baby Buckles.  He is really chilling out.  yes that is really Buckles with the parachute but don't worry he isn't really parachuting !!

Buckles is doing great! I can't believe he is already 40 pounds. He is
almost as big as Cheryls 4 year old Basset.  He is going to be ol boy.
He loves playing tug of war with Natalie my Fox Terrier. They get
along really well, unless food is involved. He also enjoys going over
to Cheryls and playing with her two dogs. He has a great personality,
everyone at the vet fell in love with him instantly. Hope everything
is going well at Blessed Bassets. God Bless.  @ 4 months

Sophie is the prettiest basset hound with the longest ears!  My Sophie is very sweet, she is loving and thinks she is a lap dog.  Her favorite time is sitting in my lap!   She is very hard headed and doesn't want to mind me although she minds her daddy with no problem.  If she doesn't want to come inside she just looks at me and keeps going.       But we love her.   (@ age 2 yrs.)

Sophie is one of the sweetest dogs I have known.  She wants all the attention.  When I come home from work she will not go outside to potty until she jumps on the loveseat and waits for me to love on her.  After some attention she will then go outside.  Another thing she loves ice.  Whenever I get crushed ice from the refrigerator she comes running to the kitchen to get a piece.  If she is sleeping and happens to hear it she will get up and come get her ice.  She also knows that when I go to the grocery store and come back with sacks, she will again not go out until I open a box of treats and she gets one, then she will go outside.  She loves outside and we have a very large fenced yard and she really enjoys sitting out there and looking around.  She loves to chase the neighbors cat if he gets in our yard but loves my cats and one is usually laying by her or rubbing their face on her.  They love their Sophie Sophia.  Once again, she is a very smart, lovable dog and we are so glad we found you.  Bless You and all your family and Basset babies.
