Alivia--When Ken and Debra came to pick out their puppy their kids and grandkids came to help.  There were alot of puppies to choose from and lots of little ones with opinions for their Grandpa (Ken).  Everyone had a favorite and all of the puppies got lots of love but Ken finally had to choose and he chose Alivia.   Alivia receives a lot of attention from Ken and Debra and the grandkids.  Ken sent me the "Flying Nun" photo for those of you who are old enough to remember Sally Fields as the Flying Nun.    " Thought you might enjoy a photo of Alivia playing in her new backyard.  She seems to be really excited about her new home and surroundings.  You like to post photos of all your babies on the internet and this one was too priceless not to send to you.  Feel free to post Alivia as this should get you lots of attention for your Basset Hound puppies. " @ 8 weeks
" Alivia has been a lot of fun over the last month.  We still have our moments for accidents in the house, but that seems to happen mostly when Deb and/or myself have relaxed a little and aren't paying close enough attention to her.  On our antiquated scales Alivia weighed 22 pounds last Monday.  She is growing pretty fast.  She continues to meet other puppies and humans to keep up her social life.  "@ 12 weeks

Dusty and Tootsie--These are the California Girls, Dusty and Tootsie.  Louise was in Dallas on business in July 2007 and saw Dusty's photo and decided to fly her home to CA. as a surprise for her husband. (photo on top left).  She was our first Blessed Basset to fly home so far away.  Louise flew Dusty first class inside the plane on her lap and we learned about how that works for other families who have flown here for puppies since then.
Louise and her husband, Jan, came back to Dallas in May 2008 and flew home  with sweet Tootsie.  Even though these two girls are from two different sets of parents they look alot alike.  Here are Louise's comments on them:

About Dusty:
We are not calling her Letty as I first thought. You see we live in a new area and our back yard is under construction. Needless to say we're still in the dirt stages. So the first day we took the puppy in the back yard she was sniffing around and got a snout full of dust, sneezed and looked up at us with a face that looked as though someone had taken a powder puff to her. My husband then started calling her Dusty. Then while playing in our front yard she found my daisies and had a ball wrestling with them. So officially her registered name has become Lulu's Dusty Daisy. We just love her! I just took her for her 12 week check and she now weighs 16.6 lbs.  August '07

Well we're five months old and 30 lbs. We have already been camping in Yellowstone where Dusty made new friends every day. She enjoys getting in the spa and chilling with us in the evening. That's one way to get the keep her clean!! She also knows how to swim, which is great given we have a pool and she needs to be safe in the water. We started puppy classes and are learning to walk on a gentle lead. We walk about 3 miles a day. I'm not sure she likes the lead but she is getting used to it. She doesn't try to pull me down the street anymore. We just love her so much, but she is a rascal. She is very smart. Maybe sometimes smarter than she needs to be which always get her repremanded (gently). I can't tell you how happy we are to have her!  Oct. '07

About Tootsie:
What a sweet girl !!!  She did very well on the trip home.  Didn't cry but just a couple of times when she was in the carrier.  I was able to calm her by placing my hand inside and rubbing her.  I will say it was hard to get through the airport with her.  Everyone stopped and wanted to pet her.  I met one gentleman from the Dallas area that said Texas's loss was California's gain. He sure thought she was sweet.  As for meeting Dusty, you would have thought she was Dusty's puppy.  She and Dusty took to each other immediately.  She's already figured out the doggy door.  She did that within 30 minutes after we got home.  She just watched the other dogs for a minute and got the idea. Our little dog is also very interested in her.  She's more Lady's size right now so that makes her a good play mate for her.Everyone is getting along famously !!!   Jan says Tootsie looks like a Dusty Mini Me:)  It's really funny how much they do look alike !!  May '08

Dusty is about 45 lbs. and Toosie is about 28lbs now.  Tootsie is a little more vocal and of course more curious of the world around her.  Don't know if that is the puppy in her yet or if she too is a tracker. They both bring us so much enjoyment!!  We always get comment on their coats.  I told you about the Dream Coat additive we give them daily and attribute half of that to the product and the other half to good breeding.   Sept. 2008

Oberon--Just thought I would give you an update on Oberon - he is doing great! As of last Friday, he was up to 19.5 lbs, so he has gained over 10.5 lbs since I brought him home. He has had a few mishaps with a scratched eye and then a bleeding nose from an incident with a bug, but those resolved within a couple of days - he's just so curious.  He's gotten so much bigger than when I first had him and he's really grown accustomed to my schedule. He loves lying on his back while he sleeps under the fan when he isn't in his crate and loves his chew toys, haha. Hope all is well with you, your family and the dogs!I've attached a couple of recent photos of Oberon for you to see how much he's grown - his hind quarters are starting to get a lot more brown as well mixed in with the black, so I think we were right in thinking he might look a lot like his dad, Fred :)
June '09 @3 months old

I just wanted to give you an update on Oberon - when he was last at the vet he was 31lbs and that was a couple to few weeks ago. He's a pretty smart pup - anytime I say he needs to go to his crate, he runs over to his pillow and lays down, as if to say "Look, I'm being good - let me stay out!!" He really enjoys having his teeth brushed and is growing in new teeth right now - we've had some misadventures involving stepping on some sharp baby teeth that fell out haha. The only downside is his dirty, dirty ears - pretty sure I got the winner on the waxiest ears out of the litter!I have had so many people tell me that Oberon is such a good looking Basset and wonder where I got him. They also love how social he is - anytime he sees another dog or person, he wants to go play with them. He may need some obedience training just so he doesn't react so strongly when he gets excited to see new dogs or people, because I can't imagine controlling that when he is full grown haha.I've attached some recent pictures of Oberon for you - he's getting so broad chested and browner in the face, it's hard to even tell he's the same puppy that I picked out! That is one good thing about him, he doesn't jump when he wants attention (I think he's scared of losing his balance from being a little uncoordinated haha) - anytime he sees a person or another dog, he either just pulls on the leash and then sits focusing or he tries to run up to them and slobers all over them while wagging his tail wanting to be pet more, he's just a little over zealous at times because he gets so excited that it is hard to contain him. He already has "sit", "down" and "stay" down pretty well. He is also slowly learning "give" from when we play fetch, which he loves since he gets to chase the ball all across the apartment.
The bottom left photo is of Oberon baying, which he loves to practice by howling into a wastebasket that usually holds his toys until he tips it over and knocks them all out. The top right is just one of my favorites and really shows off his coloring and markings so you can see how much he has changed since I got him.  bottom right is him just cheesing it up for the camera - he loves laying on his back with his belly just waiting to be scratched or rubbed.

Take a look at this photo.  The question is
"Who wore out who? " Little boys and Bassets are  a great combination !!

Maslow is most certainly a tracker. He can follow a scent forever! If you carry a bowl of food around the kitchen and then into the dining room, he will carve the same path you did with the bowl after you've already gone. The only problem is that you can't hide ANYTHING if it has a smell! He's already almost as long as Payden (our youngest) is tall. I think he's going to be huge! He has a wonderful personality and fits right in with us here. He's even made our other dog (Simba) perk up and become more active and "dog-like." Those two dogs make great brothers. (@ 4mos.)

Jackson--Well, just about 7 weeks shy of his first birthday Jackson is at 51 lbs. and we think that he looks SO much like his grandfather, Fred.  Connor saw Fred's picture on the website and couldn't believe the resemblance. He's a very happy boy, but only at his happiest when he's the center of attention and when he's not, he's usually looking for trouble...full of mischief! This is the most recent picture that I have of Mister Mischief, but I'll make sure to get another this week to mark his first birthday!   He is big and healthy and totally loveable.  He's still weighing in at about 50 lbs., long and pretty lean for a basset.  His chest and hindquarters are muscular and massive.  We are looking forward to the day when he becomes lazy and a little fat, because right now he's like having a two year old little boy in the house...but a really big and strong one!  When he's not being loved on and the center of attention, he's on the prowl looking for mischief.  Connor found him in the empty bathtub recently just because he was curious as to what was behind the curtain!  Connor is so proud of his boy (@ 1 yr.)

We can't believe our big basset boy is almost two years old!   Jackson is wonderful and probably getting really close to 60 lbs....he is as pretty a basset as you'd ever see and never fails to make us (and anyone else who's paying attention) smile. (@ 2yrs.)  Regina, Connor S., Ft. Worth, Tx.

Humphrey is doing really well, she likes to bite us alot but she is a wonderful puppy who has come out of her shell.  She isn't shy anymore, she goes up to everyone and she is real playful.    We are going to    start taking her to puppy classes next week so that she can be an even better dog                                       (@ 3 months)
Humphrey has turned into a really great dog, even though she is still stubborn! (@1  1/2 yrs.)
Humphrey is now 3 years old and is like our own little child. Though we took her to obedience classes, we think she only passed because she was cute.  She's far too stubborn to obey on command. She now has a sister, Maddie, who we adopted through the North Texas Basset Rescue. (on left in photo) They love to wrestle, "hunt" in the back yard, get into laundry, sleep, and be snuggled. While Humphrey only barks        (I think she forgot how to howl), Maddie is a big howler and even sounds like she talks sometimes when she's bothered. Humphrey has become a better girl since we adopted Maddie.    Even though Maddie is younger, she has taught Humphrey a lot about not getting into too much trouble.  It's really been helpful getting Humph a friend so she has someone to play with when we are not at the house. We love Bassets and are so glad we bought Humphrey from Bonnie!

Harley--Here are some pictures of Harley.  He is doing very good.  His first night he slept with Bear in the recliner like I told you on the phone.  Last night he slept in the bed with us and we both got to sleep.  He only woke us up once in the middle of the night.  And I do that on my own!   He has already learned how to go up & down the steps off the deck at the back door.  So far we have only had one accident. @2 months

Harley is doing great.  He is full of energy and keeps us on our toes.  Bear is so much in love with his dog.  I am so glad I got Harley for his birthday.  He will hold him in his lap and just hug and kiss him.  I tease Bear that he gives the dog more affection than he does me!  :-)  We can't get over how big Harley is now and how quickly he is growing! @ 5 months

Maggie went home with Trish and Bear....much to the surprise of Harley.  Here is what happened:
Ms Maggie has survived her first day in her new home.  She cried for the first 30 minutes driving home, then finally settled down and went to sleep.  Jake reacted to her pretty much as we expected.  He actually has adjusted to her better than he did Harley.  I am sure that is because of Harley.  Mr. Harley on the other hand has not reacted the way I expected him too.  I thought he would be excited to have a sister to play with.  Instead, he is mad at us for bringing a new baby into the home I think.  LOL  We wanted him to settle down, well over night he did just that!  She wants to play with him but he wanted nothing to do with her at all yesterday.  If she got close to him he would run the other way.  Occassionally he would walk up to her and sniff but no playing at all.  Today he has gotten a little closer to her and has let her get closer to him.  I think he will warm up to her and start to play.  Maybe she is just too little for him right now. (photo above right is Harley pouting)     Then the next day....I wish you could see Harley playing with Maggie!  He just started!  I hope they wear each other out!  I am so glad he got over it.  He stays in the crate with her now while I am at work until Bear gets up.  He will wait for her when coming in from outside.  She won't stay outside unless he is with her.  I think they are going to be best buds!   Nov. 2009  @ 8 weeks old
