The Blessed Bassets Royal Family
As you'll see below, we love our dogs. They all have their special
personalities and quirks. We have bios on all our adult breeding dogs,
so that you can get to know the parents of your new puppy. And we also
like to brag on our babies. So without further ado we present...
the Royal Family!
Introducing the Dukes:
Harlow's Bravehearted Fred
(Male-Tri) Fred is a super smart dog and was the star of his obedience class. He is also the alpha male of our pack and everyone knows it. Fred is a lovable guy, sits to be petted but prefers your lap. In the summer he loves to swim in his pool. He circles around and even puts his face under the water. We notice that his children/grandchildren seem to be exceptionallly smart (Tess and Phoebe are examples).
Harlow's Hunky Hank
(Male, tri) Hank is our biggest boy but he is totally unaware of this fact. He believes that your lap is the only place he can sit. He is a love and he is also very, very laid back. Hank is the one that usually starts our early morning wake up call that we have named the "howl around". He loves to eat and has a hard time being quiet (not barking at you) to be served.
Harlow's Bonus Rudy Romeo
(Male, Mahogany and white). Rudy is one very happy guy. He is always smiling. He loves ALL the girls ALL the time and they are all crazy about him !! He is our smallest male (at 52 lbs.) but a real powerhouse of a Basset! Rudy has a very sweet disposition and is buddies with Precious (our nanny girl). He loves to soak in his "cool tub" in the summer. Rudy produces beautiful big mahogany puppies. He is a true bonus to our Basset family !!
Rosalie's Gabriel
(Male, tri). Gabriel is a second generation Blessed Basset. His parents are Hank and Wilma. Gabriel is owned and spoiled by our daughter, Rosalie. He has always been a great, big boy with big slobbery jowls. He loves to perch on the arm of the couch and just hang out. Gabriel is very, very friendly and loves to greet everyone. He also adores puppies (his own and everyone else's). He loves to play with the puppies and has children (Phoebe and Wally) and even a granddaughter (Sunshine) here to play with. The only thing that Gabriel does not like is the swimming pool...he is "cool' without the pool.
Harlow's Whimsical Wally
(Male, Red and white). Wally is a third generation Blessed Basset. His parents are Tess and Gabriel. His grandparents are Zoee and Fred, and Hank and Wilma. As you can tell by looking at the pictures Wally is a character (notice my hair elastic in his mouth in the top right photo). He is a big, dufus, blubbery kind of a Basset. He is a huge love bug....my pet name for him is Wally bug. As a puppy he was so irresistible we had to keep him and he still is. He is totally laid back like his Dad and grandad. Wally also adores puppies and loves to play especially with his daughter, Sunshine. The photos above are when Sunshine was still a puppy...you can see how big she is now by looking at her photo profile. They still love each other and love to play together. Wally has a singular talent...he is the only Basset we have that whistles for his food. He also likes to fetch and usually brings it back. Wally is a constant "talker" ....always letting you know how he feels with lots of aaaooohhhhsss, howls, etc.. Can you tell that I am crazy about him??!!
And now to introduce our Duchesses:
Harlow's Sweet Zoee
(female, Red and White) Zoee is the matriarch of our Basset family. She is the alpha female and really the alpha dog of our whole pack (Fred just thinks he is). She keeps everyone in line and knows how to scold (a trait she has passed on to her daughter, Tess). Zoee loves to be a mama even when she is not pregnant and looks out for everyone. She is also very, very nosey and has a strong personality...(just a little stubborn). Most of all she is a velcro girl....right in your lap and loving on you.
Harlow's Freckled Angel
(female, mahogany and white) Angel is our biggest girl (at 65 lbs.) and has always been even as a puppy. She is shy and retiring. Angel's tail NEVER stops wagging. As a matter of fact, her whole body wiggles. Angel loves to hang out with Zoee (it's a girlfriend thing). She also likes to "mother" the other dogs, especially puppies. Angel absolutely loves her pool and can be seen chilling in it as often as possible.
Harlow's Prima Contessa
(female, open tri-color with lots of freckles). We call her Tess and she was the first puppy we kept from our very first litter thus the name "Prima Contessa". Tess is a second generation Blessed Basset, her parents are Zoee and Fred, our two alpha dogs so there is nothing subtle about Ms. Tess. She is ALWAYS into everyone's business but she always has a smile on her face. Tess loves to have her picture taken and loves to stike a pose for the camera. She is a very big girl (has to watch her weight). Tess is everyone's friend....very playful and friendly with everyone. But she did inherit scolding from her mom, Zoee and will always scold visitors when she first sees them. She enjoys playing with her children, Wally and Phoebe and her granddaughter, Sunshine. One big sweet girl.
Harlow's Alluring Annabelle
(female, lemon and white) Annabelle is our smallest girl. She is a true lemon (born all white). She is a second generation Blessed Basset, her parents are Rudy and Angel. We expected Annabelle to be a very big girl like her mom but instead she is a very pretty "shrinky dink" of her mom's size. Annabelle is the very sweetest girl we have....she loves everyone. She is a peacemaker....taking everyone under her wing. She and Estella are especially good friends. Quiet and lovable. Her daughter, Sunshine loves to play rough with her and Annabelle isn't fazed a bit by it but just plays constantly with her. As you can see her daughter is huge unlike Annabelle (Sunshine takes after her grandma Angel). I just couldn't get Annabelle to smile....she is really not as serious as these photos look.
Harlow's Enchanting Estella
(female, tri) Estella is black, tan and white...a very pretty combination. She is our tracker supreme. Estella loves to spend her time chasing anything at the fence (rabbits, cats, dragonflies, etc.). She is constantly focused on scenting and chasing. She would love to hunt if given the chance. Estella also loves affection and will focus on being with you and being loved on....if the "hunt" is not too tempting. Very playful girl.
Harlow's Phenomenal Phoebe
(female, red and white) Phoebe is a third generation Blessed Basset. Her parents are Tess and Gabriel, grandparents are Zoee and Fred, and Hank and Wilma. Wally is her brother. We fell in love with the pair and could not part with them. They are truly bonded siblings and are constant companions. Phoebe has inherited a good deal of nosiness and bossiness from her mom Tess and grandma Zoee although she is a bit more laid back than they are. She is also very, very smart and learns quickly a trait she has inherited from her Grandpa Fred and Mom Tess. Phoebe is crazy about Wally's daughter (her niece) Sunshine. When the three of them (Wally, Phoebe and Sunshine) start playing rambunctiously, both grandmas Zoee and Wilma feel they must scold them. Phoebe is a true "velcro" dog and never leaves your side. She just loves to be with you and loves all the affection you can give. A real sweetheart.
Harlow's Stupendous Sunshine
(female, red and white). Sunshine is our only fourth generation Blessed Basset. Her parents are Wally and Annabelle. Her grandparents are Tess and Gabriel, Angel and Rudy. Her great-grandparents are Zoee and Fred, Hank and Wilma. She truly is a sunshine that "makes us happy when skies are grey". In the top photos she is still a baby at only 4 months old and you can see that she is one huge girl. Bottom photos are at a little over one year old. Sunny is build just like her Dad Wally and it is so cute to see their big, matching bottoms as they walk around together. It is so interesting to see the characteristics of her parents, grandparents and even great grandparents in her. Her Mama Annabelle is tiny but Sunny takes after her huge Grandma Angel. She is very mischievious like her Daddy Wally and constantly provoking all of the big dogs to play with her....especially her Dad Wally, Aunty Phoebe and Grandpa Gabriel. Sunshine is a real "talker" ....always commenting when you talk to her or when she wants your attention and her "voice" sounds exactly like her Great Grandma Zoee and Grandma Angel. And she is totally a Velcro girl...never ever leaves your side or your lap for anything. She is all skin and wrinkles. Sunshine is a sweet love.
Finally....our very special girls...our Nannies:
We've raised these girls since puppies but due to physical appearance or health concerns we have decided not to breed them so they are nannies (spayed) and are everyone's friend.
Harlow's Winsome Wilma
(female, tri) Wilma is Fred's sister...we raised them together since they were puppies. Wilma is truly our sweetest and gentlest girl. Upon meeting you she will roll over for a tummy rub. Wilma has had three absolutely gorgeous litters (Gabriel is her son with Hank). But due to very early glaucoma that took her right eye, we decided not to breed her anymore. She is a love and very spoiled and considers herself to be the "Queen Bee". We adore her.
Harlow's Precious Polka Dot
Harlow's Dynamite
(female, saddleback tri) Dinah (short for Dynamite) was so named because she was very hyper as a puppy. She is very chubby (even on diet food) and just never developed the correct Basset look. We question her heritage wondering if she is Basset/dachshund so we have chosen not to breed her. We love her anyway. Dinah still loves to run and play and cause all kinds of commotion. She and Hank are pals.
And finally our very old country dog...Betsy.
We can't forget to mention our old faithful country dog Betsy. She is NOT a Basset Hound. Betsy was here first and she does not even like the Basset Hounds. But we love her. You will see her running around our yard. Just so YOU know that she is not a Basset Hound.
